Description:

North Karelia in Finland offers superb opportunities for enjoying traditional winter activities. The Nevala Farm near Koli National Park is a place for guests who are looking for something different and a wealth of experiences. At Nevala Farm you will experience pure nature. On our snowshoe treks, for example, you will see animal tracks in the untouched snow, and at night the bright stars are an experience in themselves – you may even see the spectacular Northern Lights. Group size: 4-8 persons.

Prices:  1290 €/adult, 7 days/6 nights

The packages include transportation as specified in the programme (including from and to the airport), accommodation in double rooms, full board, excursions and guided tours as specified in the programme, admission to the Ukko Nature Centre, ski and snowshoe rentals, and sauna 1-3 times per week. Note: Our farm has lots of dogs and other animals, so it is not recommended for persons with allergies or restricted mobility. We offer animal agility activities with dogs, goats and horses. English spoken.

Program

Day 1, Saturday: Arrival
Transportation from Joensuu Airport (time) or the centre of Joensuu to your room at the farm. Soup dinner and info briefing for all guests.

Day 2, Sunday
Breakfast followed by cross-country skiing practice in the yard. Relaxed “ski school”. Free time after lunch for your own activities and outdoor recreation around the farm. Dinner and group programme in the evening.

Day 3, Monday
Breakfast followed by 5-kilometre snowshoe trek in the beautiful Finnish winter scenery. Possibility to take photos and follow animal trails, which can be seen clearly in the untouched snow – you may even see wolverine tracks! Lunch in the wilderness. Dinner and sauna in the evening.

Day 4, Tuesday
Breakfast followed by transportation to Koli National Park. Group tour to the top of Koli to see the magnificent view and take photos: “The best known and most popular landscape in Karelia – and perhaps in Finland as a whole – is the vista over Lake Pielinen seen from the snowy Koli hills in Koli National Park.” Lunch can be enjoyed in the hotel (optional), and in the afternoon it is possible to try downhill skiing (optional) or visit the Ukko Nature Centre. Local products and souvenirs can also be purchased.

Day 5, Wednesday
Breakfast followed by ice fishing on the lake. This is a popular winter activity in Finland. Lunch followed by the chance to try snowmobiling at Loma-Koli (optional – reservations at least 2 days in advance).

 

Day 6, Thursday
Breakfast followed by free time for your own activities, including the chance to try at husky safari at Koli (optional – reservations in advance, no later than Monday). Lunch. Discover the secrets of felting over dinner. Make a small felt souvenir from the farm’s own wool (e.g. neckless or brooch).

Day 7, Friday: Departure
Breakfast followed by transportation to the airport, including a short sightseeing tour of Joensuu and the chance for last minute shopping.
